“Interchange” and “intermix” are two critical definitions of instrumentation tube fittings that are often confused with one another. Interchanging refers to using one manufacturer's nut and ferrule system with another manufacturer's body to build a single tube fitting assemblyto ensure a tight, leak-free connection. Intermixing is a more general practice, where technicians and operators mix and match any combination of components—not just the nut and ferrule—with compatible components by other brands.

Knowing the difference between interchanging and intermixing is crucial for ensuring that operators construct instrumentation systems that are safe, reliable, and fully functional. Following the wrong information to repair fittings could endanger facilities or lives.

Many sources regarding interchanging and intermixing contradict one another. For example, some manufacturers insist intermixing and interchanging cannot create reliable, safe fittings. Some claim that interchanging is safe but intermixing is not. Others say that both interchanging and intermixing are safe practices as long as they are performed with compatible components.

Duolok®, our dual-ferrule  tube fittings provide easy intermixing capabilities with both Swagelok® and Parker A-Lok® fittings. Duolok® fittings can operate in systems with pressure levels of up to 12,100 psig* and accommodate a temperature range of -425 °F to 1,200 °F. They are also available in a wide range of material options—including 316 SS, Alloy 400, C-276 and brass—for maximum compatibility.

*Duolok tube fittings are rated to the maximum allowable pressure rating of the tubing it connects.

Unilok®, Our single-ferrule  tube fittings can intermix with Parker CPI™ fittings to provide a reliable, leak-proof connections in instrumentation and process tubing systems. They can withstand pressures of up to 12,100 psig* and a temperature range of -425 °F to 1,200 °F.

*Unilok tube fittings are rated to the maximum allowable pressure rating of the tubing it connects.
